The Parish Council

Parish Councils are the local government tier closest to the people and as such the most important role that a Parish Council can perform is that of representing the local residents of the Parish.

If you are interested in becoming a Councillor, please contact The Clerk for an informal chat on 01243 263330.

Below are just some of the services that are undertaken by Aldwick Parish Council:

Planning:

Aldwick is situated wholly within the Arun District and all planning related matters (such as establishing whether planning permission is required, pre-application advice, making full or outline applications, appeals, and planning compliance issues) will be dealt with by Arun District Council (ADC).

Aldwick Parish Council is a statutory consultee for planning applications and other planning matters. ADC, as the planning authority, is the decision making body for planning applications.

The dates for scheduled Planning Committee meetings are displayed on the Parish Council Notice Boards and published on this web site. Agendas  are placed in the Parish Council Notice Boards 3 clear working days before a scheduled Committee meeting and include details of the applications to be considered. Members of the public are welcome to attend and participate in the Public Question Time to speak on an item on the Agenda.

Following consideration by the Planning Committee, a response from the Parish Council will be submitted to ADC.

Planning applications documentation can be viewed online via the ADC Public Access system by using the following link https://www.arun.gov.uk/weekly-lists (just enter the application ref no, if known, or the location address in the ‘search box’) . If you have any comments to make regarding any application under consideration you are advised to put them in writing and send to the Planning Officer at ADC or submit electronically via the Public Access system by the deadline date on the Notice.

Allotment Gardens:

The Parish Council has a duty to provide Allotment Gardens.  Currently Aldwick has one allotment garden containing 21 plots which are used by parishioners.  There is unfortunately a shortage of plots that means there is a waiting list. If you are interested in taking on a plot please provide the Clerk with your details and you will be added to the waiting list.

Open Spaces:

The Parish Council is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of xxx and works in conjunction with Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Highways Rangers / Officers to ensure that all the 'open spaces' parks and public footpaths/bridleways within Aldwick remain accessible.

Village Maintenance:

The Parish Council owns notice boards, benches, bus shelters, grit bins, 4 street lights and a range of other assets

Consultation:

The Parish Council is consulted on relevant local and government issues.  The Parish Council strives to provide a local perspective in response to all these consultations and where public opinion is directly requested, information can be found published on the Notice Boards or on this Parish Council web site .
